Get to know Representative Doug LaMalfa outside of politics in a new episode of Capitol Spotlight, a video and audio podcast from CNCT.
Before Rep. Doug LaMalfa started his career in politics, he was a rice farmer in northeastern California. The Congressman and his children are the fourth and fifth generations of rice farmers in his family, as they've owned their ranch since 1931. Motivated by the impact of the government on farmers such as himself, Rep. LaMalfa eventually started his career in politics and is passionate about agriculture to this day.

๐ CNCT with Rep. LaMalfa about... Office pranks!
Listen to Rep. LaMalfa's episode to hear about life as a rice farmer, the agriculture of northeastern California, and how he creates a fun office environment.
About Rep. Doug LaMalfaโs Office
While CNCT's founder, David, worked as a staffer on the Hill, he was lucky enough to be across the hall from Rep. LaMalfa's office and experienced some fun hijinks.
As part of what Rep. LaMalfa refers to as an "initiation," his office welcomed David's with a Nerf gun attack.
๐ฉ This sparked a prank war. David's office decided to get back at LaMalfa's by gifting them custom-made donuts from a local shop and requesting they be filled with mustard instead of creme.
Rep. LaMalfa enjoys the antics, jokes, and laughter. "All of this stuff is very fleeting ... and so, you might as well have some fun. I don't like uptight offices," he says.
The Congressman brings some levity to an otherwise serious work environment with his fun nicknames for staff, inside jokes with other Members, and fun traditions.
๐ While recording his podcast episode, the CNCT team was able to witness one of Rep. LaMalfa's traditions โ "The Dingo Derby." You can watch it here!
