Get to know Michael LaRosa in a new episode of Capitol Spotlight, a video and audio podcast from CNCT.
Sitting at the dinner table as a kid and staring at his placemat of U.S. presidents, Michael LaRosa knew from a young age that he was a political junkie. Younger Michael was determined to memorize all of the presidents on his placemat; however, he didnβt expect to work in the White House one day.
Michael started on the Hill working in operations for former Rep. Melissa Bean, which he describes as his "first job and best job." Later, he worked for and developed a meaningful connection with Sen. Maria Cantwell and was a producer on Hardball with Chris Matthews.
In November of 2019, Michael started his work with then-former Second Lady Jill Biden as her Press Secretary. When President Biden was elected in 2020, he transitioned to the White House with the First Lady. Now, Michael is a Partner at Ballard Partners.

More about Michael
As Press Secretary for former First Lady Jill Biden, Michael got to share a lot of special moments with her. In the episode, Michael describes how he enjoyed being down-to-earth with FLOTUS and, at the end of a long day, sharing a glass of wine with her.
π° One particular memory that Michael recalls is bringing First Lady Biden her feature profile with The Philadelphia Inquirer. This feature was very important to the First Lady since it's her hometown's paper.
Michael brought the paper to the Bidens' home. There was a beautiful sunset on the lake, the dogs were running around in the backyard, and he got to sit with Dr. Biden as she read the article. Michael describes this as a "very reflective and contemplative moment" during his time with the Bidens.
π± One of Michael's key takeaways from his time with the Bidens is his love for animals. During the Bidens' transition to the White House, Michael fostered Willow, the Bidens' cat. Michael was so heartbroken to give Willow back that he adopted three rescues.
