Growing up in Oakland, California, Brennan always wanted to be a famous actress. It was a goal she had spent her childhood and teenage life working towards.
“The reason I wanted to be an actress was not because I wanted to be famous, but I wanted to be famous so I could change the world,” she recalls.
It wasn’t until she started studying acting at USC that she realized: “I don’t want to be a famous actress … but I do want to do something good!”
📦 Brennan thinks it’s important for everyone to think outside the box when it comes to life goals. If she didn’t, she would have never ended up with her accomplished career in politics.
On the Hill, Brennan served as the Digital Assistant for then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She went on to the equally stressful position of Deputy Comms Director of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
🔖 Be sure to listen to this episode to hear how Brennan advocated for herself in these positions.
Now, she’s back enjoying sunshine and work-life balance on the west coast as Public Policy Lead at Asana. Brennan enjoys some “tech industry” perks like free breakfast, a coffee shop in the office, and more. Wow… must be nice!

Brennan’s Post-Hill Adventures
After an exhausting tenure on the Hill, Brennan decided it was time for a break … and it was quite a break she had!
⛷️ She started by skiing for two months. Some of her destinations included:
Jackson Hole, WY
Colorado
Whistler, Canada
France
Switzerland
After hurting her ACL, she came back home to rest and reflect. She attended the White House Correspondence dinner, and thought about what comes next: horses.
🐎 As a kid, Brennan’s family had horses, chickens, peacocks, and all sorts of other animals. Brennan loved the idea of working with her hands and being around horses again, so she went to work on a horse ranch in Spain.
While at the ranch, scooping poop, Brennan got to thinking about her life, her career, and how she wanted to heal. In that process, she wrote a book!
📖 Most of the book was written in a month and a half, and it focuses on her life, working in government, and what it’s like trying to stay bipartisan in an increasingly partisan environment.
Right now, the book is on pause as Brennan is waiting to figure out what she wants to “tell the story of.”
Based on what she’s shared in this episode, the next chapter is sure to be the best one yet.
