The UK critical minerals strategy: Building national resilience through global political and commercial collaboration

  • Chatham House 10 Saint James's Square London, England, SW1Y 4LE United Kingdom (map)

Critical minerals sit at the heart of the UK’s economic security. From advanced manufacturing to the clean energy transition and global industrial competitiveness, critical minerals are essential to the UK’s industrial base. Ensuring the UK has resilient and sustainable supply chains is a strategic priority amid intensifying geopolitical competition and growing demand. The new UK Critical Minerals Strategy seeks to address these vulnerabilities by strengthening domestic capability while deepening international partnerships.

At this event, Chris McDonald MP, UK Minister for Industry, will:

  • Outline the government’s approach to securing critical mineral supply chains and what it means for international partners.

  • Explore how the UK can balance national resilience with openness, working with partner countries and industry to manage risk

  • How to position the UK in an increasingly contested global minerals landscape.

  • Join a discussion with experts including Chris Vandome, head of Chatham House’s Critical Minerals Initiative.
